Groundbreaking ceremony for Sun Youth
1 min.
Joined by Rachel Bendayan, Member of Parliament for Outremont, campaign co-chairs Lucy Riddell and Claude Mongeau, as well as Sun Youth representatives and key professionals, JCB Construction Canada celebrated the groundbreaking of the new facility, which will be named in honor of Mirella and Lino Saputo.
Attendees had the chance to observe the progress of the demolition work that has been underway for the past month, preparing the site for a 40,000 sq. ft., three-story building expected to be completed by 2025. The facility will include:
- A grocery-style food bank
- Reception and meeting areas
- A gymnasium with locker rooms
- Multi-purpose rooms (for dance, martial arts, music, and art)
- A study and tutoring room
- A clothing dispensary
- A community kitchen and cafeteria
- Various community spaces
At the forefront of the construction industry best practices, the project will follow BIM (Building Information Modeling) principles and aim for carbon neutrality. This will be achieved through the use of geothermal energy, a solid wood structure, and eco-efficient systems.
Guests at the event reflected on the significant efforts, years of planning, and extensive fundraising that have gone into this landmark project. Perfectly located on the edge of Jarry Park, anchored on Saint-Laurent Boulevard, and just steps away from the metro, this new facility will be seamlessly woven into the fabric of the community it is built to serve.
JCB Construction Canada is honored to be part of this flagship project and to help bring Sun Youth's vision to life.
